Waking up with pain

Last night, around 2 a.m I woke up with tremendous pain in my right shoulder.  An aching feeling that came and went depending on the position I was sleeping.  I rolled on my back and it seemed okay for a while but every time my arm moved a shooting pain came over me.  Lets just say I missed a few hours sleep last night.

When I woke up this morning I tried some internal/external rotation of my shoulder and discovered a few limitations. Internal rotation was fine, but external rotation caused tremendous pain. This pain did not feel like a tear or separation, it was more a feeling of muscle cramping.  I think my body was sending me a very important massage.  "Time to give the shoulders a break!"

This week my workouts involved a lot of kipping pull ups and kettle bell swings.  I've also been working on improving some of my weak areas including, handstand push ups and ring dips.  All this shoulder activation must have taken a toll on the rotators.

So today is a rest day and time with my travel roller and the trigger point balls.  Using the roller has been a tremendous benefit to me.  The roller has helped me become more mobile and has helped alleviate pain.
